Thus far, this has been a busy weekend. I had to get Miss Colleen ready for her trip to Ocean City, Friday night. She is gone all this next week. I am jealous! This girl is going to be quite the traveler for summer. Her knees have been bothering her terribly. I think because they are still quite swollen. Poor kid living with constant pain at the age of 13 must really suck! I do hope she enjoys the Ocean, she has worked hard this school year. The last day of school she did recieve an award of recognition for Writing! Yeah for her!

I talked with My Sister on Friday. She is doing quite well, but gets very tired. We were both giggling about what a shock it is to have surgery in your later years. Especially any kind of female surgery. You simply take much longer to recover your basic strength. But we are grateful that it was as straightforward a procedure as could be! My niece graduates from High School Tuesday evening so my sister is using that as a goal point to be up and motivating.

Speaking of Graduation, Miss Lani heads into her Senior Year this Fall. It hardly seems possible. This summer is a big one with Senior Pics, Graduation Projects and SAT'S. Lani had to play at graduation Friday night with her marching band, and then last night worked till 1 am. Of course it falls to me to stay awake till then in order to pick her up. I stay awake quite late, but for some reason on Saturday Nights I have a hard time staying awake for that 4 mile drive into town.

Finally, much to Gabe's great discomfort, I have not had alot of time to stock the cupboards for summer. There are popsicles, cold water, and lots of fruit, but I have yet to lay in the Sandwich supplies and appropriate condiments! Gabe has been observed for the last two days to open the Frig, sigh, mutter a gutteral expletive and then slam the door shut. Obviously he is quite disgusted at his slacker Mother! Now mind you the boy isn't hungry, he is simply disgruntled that his world has been altered in a way he finds disruptive! His displeasure is audible! So today I shall have to attend to that displeasure and get some groceries. Ugggh!!!!! its bloody hot out today, but the heat in the kitchen from gabes disdainful looks seems much worse!

Beds are Burning Lyrics
Artist(Band):Midnight Oil Review The Song (2) Print the Lyrics

Send Midnight Oil polyphonic ringtone to your cell phone

Out where the river broke
The bloodwood and the desert oak
Holden wrecks and boiling diesels
Steam in forty five degrees

The time has come
To say fair's fair
To pay the rent
To pay our share
The time has come
A fact's a fact
It belongs to them
Let's give it back

How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning
How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning

The time has come
To say fair's fair
To pay the rent, now
To pay our share

Four wheels scare the cockatoos
From Kintore East to Yuendemu
The western desert lives and breathes
In forty five degrees

The time has come
To say fair's fair
To pay the rent
To pay our share
The time has come
A fact's a fact
It belongs to them
Let's give it back

How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning
How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning

The time has come
To say fair's fair
To pay the rent, now
To pay our share
The time has come
A fact's a fact
It belongs to them
we'r gonna give it back

How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning

Midnight Oil was an Australian rock band active from the early 1970s until 2002. Their notable hits include "Beds are Burning" and "Blue Sky Mine". The band was known for its driving hard rock sound, intense live performances, and its political activism, particularly in aid of environmentalist and indigenous causes.

The lineup included Rob Hirst on drums, Peter Garrett on vocals, Jim Moginie on keyboard/guitar, and Martin Rotsey on guitar. Andrew James was the band's first bass player followed by Peter Gifford from 1980 and he was replaced in 1987 by Bones Hillman.

 The World Of Remix

I never fully realized how many different songs have been remixed. Lately, though, I have been having alot of fun discovering an entire world of remixes.

A remix is an alternative version of a song, different from the original version. A remixer uses audio mixing to compose an alternate master of a song, adding or subtracting elements, or simply changing the equalization, dynamics, pitch, tempo, playing time, or almost any other aspect of the various musical components. Some remixes involve substantial changes to the arrangement of a recorded work, but many are subtle, such as creating a "vocal up" version of an album cut that emphasizes the lead singer's voice. A song may be remixed to give a song that wasn't popular a second chance at radio and club play, or to alter a song to suit a specific music genre or radio format. Remixes should not be confused with edits, which usually involve shortening a final stereo master for marketing purposes.

Since the beginnings of recorded sound in the late 19th century, certain people have enjoyed the ability to rearrange the normal listening experience with technology. With the advent of easily editable magnetic tape in the 1940s and 1950s, such alterations became more common. In those decades the experimental genre of musique concrète used tape loops of music and environmental sounds to create sound compositions that were the forerunners of electronic music. Less artistically lofty edits produced medleys or novelty recordings of various types.

Modern remixing had its roots in the dance hall culture of late-1960s/early-1970s Jamaica. The fluid evolution of music that encompassed ska, rocksteady, reggae and dub was embraced by local mixing wizards who deconstructed and rebuilt tracks to suit the tastes of their audience. Producers and engineers like Ruddy Redwood, King Tubby and Lee "Scratch" Perry popularized stripped-down instrumental mixes (which they called "versions") of reggae tunes. At first they simply dropped the vocal tracks, but soon more sophisticated effects were created, dropping separate instrumental tracks in and out of the mix, isolating and repeating hooks, and adding various effects like echo, reverberation and delay.

At the same time, DJs in early discotheques were performing similar tricks with disco songs (using loops and tape edits) to get dancers on the floor and keep them there. One noteworthy figure was Tom Moulton who invented the dance remix as we now know it. Though not a DJ (a popular misconception), Mr. Moulton had begun his career by making a home-made mix tape for a Fire Island dance club in the late 1960s.
