You Mostly Have Your Emotions in Check
Sometimes your emotions get out of control, but you usually are a pretty stable person.
You can find a lot to be happy about, as long as things are going your way.
But if a few bad things happen to you, you tend to go in a bit of a downward spiral.
Luckily, you usually come out of it okay and no worse for the wear.

 A Busy Weekend

I apologize for not getting around to everyone to wish them well on Mom's Day. I had a very busy weekend. I will get around today, I promise. First, I gotta tell ya all, that the indignities of aging continue. I recently had an eye appointment and had to replace my old glasses with Bi-Focals. I have been trying valiently to get used to these new lenses and must belly ache that it is very difficult. I have progressive lenses, which in effect are tri-focals. They are no line bi-focals with pizazz. Yeah right. Driving is a trip, walking is an LSD experience, or at the least what I assume is an LSD experience. If true, well then, no thanks to that particular drug. Its all kind of an Alice in Wonderland experience really. Floors rise to meet me, and objects move through focal telekinesis. I expect very soon to hear The Beatles singing in my head, and that sneaky white rabbit to appear. I was warned that these lenses would be hard to get used to, but really, I think there should be some sort of FDA flashing sign on these lenses. Certainly somebody should mention that the wearer is about to enter a 1960's, hallucenigenic time warp! To add to my misery I am having a hard time seeing the computer screen. Everything appears wavy, and it would seem squinting is my only recourse! Now who knew that in order to wear these glasses from hell that I would also need to consult a plastic surgeon for Botox injections. How long can I survive squint mode before the damage is etched on my face in the form of deep furrowing crows feet? Its all a bit funny really, but disconcerting when I try to view the computer. I have to resolve that issue pronto. A middle aged lady has to have her priorities! Saturday night was Alannah's Prom. Her best friend volunteered to be her date, and together they entered a heterosexually dominated world. I commend her best friend for for having the cha cha's to attend Lani's Prom as her official date! I am sure the the small minded heads were spinning and lips were given a gossip work out. Good for them both! They looked beautiful and had a grand time, including flowers, dinner and a limo. The limo was shared with some of Alannah's more progressive friends. It is a fairly large town, but small in its value system. Mother's Day was a 24 hour spoil fest, all for meeeeeee!!! LOL, I am not kidding! It started with Breakfast which James and Gabe cooked for me. They made my fave Eggs Benedict. Gabe went with his Dad to purchase the ingrediants, and then helped him cook. Gabe just loves to cook breakfast. When they arrived home Gabe had a bouquet for me and a sweet kiss. Gabe also had made a recipe holder at school which I love. Gabe was so worn out from shopping and cooking that he took a break from the festivities! He looks so angelic doesn't he? Later Kate and Brad came over and cooked Fettucine Alfredo. It was so darn yummy and decadent! The children then gave me a gorgeous pear shaped Green quartz ring, dressed in diamonds. Yes, it is a most gorgeous coke bottle green, and Yes I have trained my kid's bling bling eyes very well! They are amazing children! I felt spoiled, fat and well fed! Colleen is doing well in PT. Next week we go to her post surgical appointment. I am very proud of her because despite another surgery looming over her head she has worked hard to recover from this surgery. I was looking through some pictures and found this one of her from Kate's wedding. The expression on her face is the epitome of Colleen's nature and personality! I am expecting my sister Karen to call later today with an update on her bloodwork. Although the bloodwork will not be conclusive for ovarian cancer it might give her a clue as to what to expect surgically. They moved her surgery date up to June 4th and I am grateful. Having this hang over her head was not good for her emotionally. Think good thoughts! For all inquiring minds, I celebrate being 45 on this Saturday Night!!!!! Yee Haw! Not only will I be 45 but will celebrate 17 years of married bliss. Yup, you got it, married on my birthday. Join me for the Boogie Crawl as I have a special post planned!!!!!

 May Facts

Emerald is regarded as the traditional birthstone for May, as well as the traditional gemstone for the astrological signs of Taurus and Cancer. According to Rebbenu Bachya, the Hebrew word "Nofech" in Exodus 28:18 means "Emerald", and was the stone on the Ephod representing the tribe of Judah. According to other commentaries, "Nofech" means "garnet", and another stone, the "Bareqet", which might represent the tribe of Levi, is thought to be emerald. In some cultures, the emerald is the traditional gift for the 55th wedding anniversary. It is also used as a 20th and 35th wedding anniversary stone. The bird of May is the nightingale May's birth flower is the lily of the valley or hawthorn. May's birthstone is the emerald. May is the only month in which a President of the United States has not died. May in the Northern Hemisphere is the seasonal equivalent to November in the Southern Hemisphere and vice versa European Robin, at 15-16.5 cm length. It is plain brown above except for the reddish tail. It is buff to white below. Sexes are similar. The male Nightingale is known for his singing, to the extent that human singers are sometimes admiringly referred to as nightingales; the song is loud, with an impressive range of whistles, trills and gurgles. Although it also sings during the day, the Nightingale is unusual in singing late in the evening; its song is particularly noticeable at that time because few other birds are singing. This is why its name (in several languages) includes "night". Recent research has shown that the birds sing even more loudly in urban or near-urban environments, in order to overcome the background noise. The most characteristic feature of the song is a loud whistling crescendo, absent from the song of Thrush Nightingale. It has a frog-like alarm call. In popular traditions, the Nightingale announces the coming of spring, and is a symbol of love. May is the fifth month of the year in the Gregorian Calendar and one of seven Gregorian months with the length of 31 days. May begins (historically) with the sun in the sign of Taurus and ends in the sign of Gemini. Astronomically speaking, the sun begins in the constellation of Aries and ends in the constellation of Taurus. The month may have been named for the Greek goddess Maia, who was identified with the Roman goddess of fertility, Bona Dea, whose festival was held in May. See:-Months in various calendars in May In the neopagan Wheel of the Year May begins on Beltane in the northern hemisphere and Samhain in the southern hemisphere. In the Irish calendar May 1 is Beltane (Bealtaine), the first day of Summer, and a public holiday is held on the first Monday in May. In many countries, May Day is May 1. This is celebrated as Labor Day in many countries. In the United Kingdom, May Day is May 1, but a public holiday is held on the first Monday in May. In Germany it is an old custom to plant a "tree of May" to honor someone. Often young men set up an adorned birch in front of their girlfriends house in the night before May 1. Cinco de Mayo or the Batalla de Puebla is celebrated in Mexico on May 5. In Western Europe May 8 is VE Day. In Eastern Europe it is celebrated on May 9. In the European Union May 9 is Europe Day On 12 May, International Nurses Day is celebrated. May 12 is also International Awareness Day for Chronic Immunological and Neurological Diseases (CIND). These diseases include Neurofibromatosis, Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome (CFIDS)/Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, Fibromyalgia, Gulf War Syndrome and Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. On 17 May, the Norwegian Constitution Day is celebrated. In Argentina, the May Revolution (or Revolución de Mayo), a national holiday, is on May 25. Towel Day is celebrated in May in tribute to Douglas Adams, author of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Under the French Ancien Régime, it was of habit to “plant a May” or a “tree of May” in the honor of somebody. The County of Nice saw girls and boys “turn the May” with the sound of fife and drum, i.e. to dance rounds of May around the tree of May planted on the place of the village. The second Sunday in May is Mother's Day in the United States. May 4th Star Wars Day (May the 4th be with you) May 4th in the Netherlands is the day of Remembrance of the Dead, commemorating all the casualties in military conflicts involving the Netherlands. May 5th is the Children's Day in Japan. May 5th is Liberation Day in the Netherlands, celebrating the ending of the German occupation. Each year in May, the Eurovision Song Contest is held Finland's Day in Finland on the 12th of May The lusty month of May! May Day begins the fifth month for the Greek Goddess Maia. The Celtic name is Beltane May Day (the beginning of summer). The Maypole - Symbol of Beltane May Day customs include: archery tournaments, dances, feasting, music, drinking, electing the "Queen of the May" the Beltane celebration was mostly a time of unashamed human sexuality and fertility. The Maypole, possibly a phallic symbol The 'greenwood marriages' tradition where young men and women who spent the entire night in the forest, bringing back flowers and garlands the next morning.
