1."Give me a ring...................." When I was very young I took this to mean literally that the other person was to give you a ring. I often wondered how expensive that must be, and why I never saw any of the rings that my mother asked for on the phone. Kids can be so literal.
2."Something is rotten in Denmark" my mother said this whenever she suspected someone was lying to her. I often wondered how my mother could smell something that far away.
3."Ayuh" a downeast Mainer-ism used instead of yes. I can still hear my Paternal Grandmother saying this in my head. No one I have ever met since has been able to say it with such nasal downeaster flair as my Grammie. It is burned in my Brain as a Grammie statement.
4. "How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria", sung to me constantly by anyone who met me. Why folks thought that they were clever to sing to me is beyond me. I saw the play one summer at Brunswick Summer Music Theater and The actor who played Captain Von Trapp actually signed my playbill "to the real problem Maria". How clever of him! That actor was David Canary of Bonanza (played Candy), and now of All My Children Fame.
5."Ain't Nothin' But a Thing" so very true, I had a patient once in the nursing home that I worked in say this to me. He was a well spoken gentleman, dying of spinal cancer. Often I would give him a backrub to alleviate the constant pain, and I would often find myself apologizing to him if I rubbed a tender spot. He would always say to me it ain't nothing but a thing! Wise words from a dying man.
I love Van Morrison. Seems an appropriate song for this post! This has been the longest week, with many things happening. Like the Morton Salt Girl it never rains but pours! Sunday, I took James to Atlantic City to play poker for his birthday. Today is his actual birthday but he wanted a poker marathon for a gift. He did well in the first game placing 19th out of 100, but finished far out of the money. I busted out early on that tourney, and waited for Jim for about three hours, getting my game face on for the next tourney. In the next tourney Jim busted out early and I ended up placing second for 500 bucks cash prize money. I was extremely lucky in places, and actually lost to a 75 year old lady. She was the balls! I finished up about 1 am Monday morning and woke Jim up, as he had gone to the truck to sleep. His left side of his face was huge and puffy, and he was in terrible pain. Tuesday he went to the Dental Surgeon and had his infected tooth removed. He has been sick all week with a high fever and severe pain. On Tuesday I also started a new job and will be working now Mon-Friday 9:30 to 2:30. I have had a hard time adjusting to this switch in my schedule and have just been too exhausted to do much other than the basics. I am sure I will get accustomed to it after a bit though. In between orientation for work and James being so sick I have had to basically handle the kids on my own. Lani started softball, Colleen is busy with play practice and I have been busy getting all of Colleens testing in before her surgery on April 9 th. What a week to start work huh?
Colleen's surgery on the 9th will be quite involved, although this is just the prep surgery for a more serious surgery a year from now. She has a growth plate deformity in her left femur, causing her femur to only grow on one side. So she walks with a severe limp now. We noticed it back in October and at that time she was misdiagnosed. It is a good thing we stayed on top of it since the first Orthopedic Doctor told us that she would have the issue always and that there was nothing to be done. Her Pediatric Ortho Doctor has quite a different opinion. She will have both legs operated on on the 9th. They will remove her growth plate from her right knee in order to allow the left leg a chance to grow. The left leg will have the bone deformity removed, and pins put in place to allow the non growing side a chance to catch up in length. She will have knee immobilizers on both legs and will be out of school for two weeks. It is expected that there will be some pain involved in recovery as she will have Physical Therapy a few days after surgery. Yucko is all I have to say! I am so tired of Drs. I could scream.
So I will try to get around to everyone and leave a hello. Hope everyone is having a good week!
Hey Lovies......Thanks Ya'll!!!! Big issues in the little house in the cornfield. Colleen goes for surgery on April 9 for both knees due to a misdiagnosis and growth discrepancy. I am beyond exhausted with dr calls and visits! I am even more beyond with the entire situation, I simply have not been able to blog about this yet. Please everyone, offer prayers in your own voice, and I will explain once I have a better grip on the details. Blessings!
